Year 6 or 7 Retreat:
“Be Strong and Courageous”
Your students will be inspired to be servant leaders and encouraged by the words of Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”. They will learn about servant leadership through an age-appropriate re-telling of Lawrence Kohlberg’s stages of moral development. The songs, games, activities, prayers and input give your students an experience of Christian living.
“Built On the Rock”
Inspired by the Scriptural story, the Tale of Two Houses (Matthew 7:24-25), your students will deepen their understanding of the key importance of building positive relationships with peers. The input and activities draw on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and evidenced-based recommendations from Brene Brown research on resilience and relationships. The retreat will invite your students to bring out the best in themselves and each other under the loving guidance of God.
“Grow in Wisdom and Stature”
Your students will be supported to move confidently into maturity with a positive self-image, a sense of purpose in life, encouragement from significant others. The retreat input and activities are guided by the writings of acclaimed psychologist, author and speaker, Steve Biddulph. Each element of the retreat experience is grounded in the Christian Faith, centering on the scripture, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and people.” (Luke 2:52)
“Shine Your Light in Mess and Success”
Your students will be empowered to be confidently authentic and purposeful young adults. Brene Brown’s research on vulnerability and courage combined with wisdom in Scripture powerfully invite your young adults to bridge the gap between their ideal values with their everyday lives. There are very good reasons why we are all a little bit messy and we are all a little bit successful and repeatable, easily accessible strategies are offered to empower your students far beyond the retreat day itself. Every element of the retreat is an expression of Christian living.
