Retreat Theme: Resilience
“God created humankind in His image. God blessed them. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” Genesis 1:27-31

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. Theological and Pastoral Focus
Your students will be invited to explore how to be their best selves, armed with strategies to develop their skills in spirituality, relationships and resilience. The input and activities are designed around wisdom found in Genesis, Catholic theological anthropology and Dr Brene Brown’s research on wholehearted, resilient living. Your students will reflect on their own stories and connect in with God’s story. Your students will enjoy a deeper experience of prayer together and individually.
Retreat Prayer and Craft Activities
Individual Craft Prayer Activity: In pairs, each of your students will create a special candle holder for the other person with beautiful acrylic paint and a glass cup. The symbolism will be derived from listening attentively to the other person’s stories and chosen Noble Gospel Values.
Individual Wellbeing Activity: Your students will create Peace Bands to take them through 5 evidence-based wellbeing strategies to increase peace, confidence and resilience. The students will be able to take these beads home along with the accompanying Wellbeing Booklet with details on each strategy.
Group Craft Activity: In small groups your students will pose with the large ‘selfie’ cut out that has the words “Indeed, We are Very, Good”, “Light for the World” and “Year 12 Retreat” with a leafy border. Ideally, the photos would be taken by one of your teachers with your school camera and shared with the students digitally. The photos could be organised to create a digital and/or printed Retreat Collage that every student can have a copy of. If the photos are taken by me I will give you the copies via USB and delete the originals.
Group Prayer Activity: You are welcome to share your message for a few minutes to reiterate the retreat theme in your own way. Your students will silently anoint each other in an oil blessing ceremony to offer healing, affirmation and gratitude to one another and/or pray on decade of a Mystery from the Scriptural Rosary with blessed beads. Your students will receive a blessing to finish.
