Retreat Theme: Leadership
“Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9
“The one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest and the leader like the servant” Luke 22:26
Theological and Pastoral Focus
Your students will be inspired and encouraged to be servant leaders who work for the common good, protect the vulnerable and confidently claim their position as everyday leader. They will learn about servant leadership through teamwork games, a Project Kindy story and a re-telling of Lawrence Kohlberg’s stages of moral development. The songs, games, activities, prayers and input give your students an opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of Christian leadership.
Retreat Prayer and Craft Activities
Individual Craft Prayer Activity: Students choose a Noble Gospel Value to personally strive for and draw a symbol of it on their own circular piece of wood, sliced from a branch. At the beginning of the prayer, the wood circles are placed altogether to symbolise the Cross so this prayer is an expression of your students aligning their heart with the heart of Jesus. You are free to keep the special items for your classroom sacred spaces or for use in other school liturgies or to let your students take them home.
Group Craft Activity: In small teams your students create a Leadership Poster filled with commitments to various aspects of Christian leadership in everyday ways.
Group Prayer: You are welcome to share your message for a few minutes to reiterate the retreat theme in your own way. Your student will receive a blessed set of Rosary Beads and pray a modified version of the Scriptural Rosary with just one decade. Your students will receive a blessing to finish.
