Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Faith Formation Experiences

Introduction

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) offers faith formation experiences for children through specially trained catechists using the Montessori methods of teaching. Sessions are held in a designated space called the Atrium, where children are introduced to a loving relationship with Jesus through Scripture and Liturgy. This article will provide information about the CGS program, including registration details and the different levels offered.

About the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was born out of the joy children experience in their encounter with God. It has been observed that children of the same developmental stage, regardless of cultural background, respond to certain elements of the Christian message in similar ways. Through observation and listening to children’s responses, scriptural and liturgical themes have been developed that resonate with children’s religious needs at different age levels.

The CGS aims to create an environment in the Atrium that is conducive to prayer and reflection, allowing children to experience life and education in faith. It is a celebration of the encounter with the Father, listening to Jesus as the one Teacher, and obeying the Holy Spirit.

Levels Offered

The CGS program offers three levels, each catering to specific age groups:

Level I (3-6 years old – PreK-K)

Level I sessions will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. This level is designed for children in the age range of 3 to 6 years old, typically in PreK and Kindergarten.

Level II (6-9 years old – 1st to 3rd grade)

Level II sessions will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This level is suitable for children aged 6 to 9 years old, typically in 1st to 3rd grade.

Level III (9-13 years old – 4th-6th grade)

Level III sessions will be held on Thursdays, with two time slots available: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This level is designed for children aged 9 to 13 years old, typically in 4th to 6th grade.

Registration Details

Registration for CGS Level II is currently closed as all classes are full. However, registration for other levels is still open. The registration fee is $60 per child, with a maximum of $100 per family. Payment must be made when submitting the registration forms.

Once the registration process is complete, a link to a Sign Up for the session times will be provided. If your desired session is already filled, you can add your name to the waitlist and select a different time slot.

Please note that for Level I, all students must be potty trained and able to follow simple instructions.

Assistants in the Classroom

The CGS program is always looking for assistants to help out in the classroom and create materials. However, assistants are not eligible to assist in their own child’s classroom. There will be a training session for new assistants to understand their role in the Atrium. If you are interested in becoming an assistant, please reach out to Elizabeth Haberstroh or your catechist.
